Dad’s Steak Supper
From your local Aldi
350g Oven Ready Chips
2 tbsp Vegetable Oil
250g fresh Mushrooms, quartered
2 x 250g Sirloin Steaks
Salt
Coarse Ground Black Pepper
150g grated Cheddar Cheese
To serve – Brown Sauce
Preparation time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 15-18 minutes
Serves: 2 persons
Method
1. Pre-heat an oven to 200°C, Gas Mark 6.
2. Place the chips onto a baking tray and cook until ready.
3. Next place a frying pan onto the heat, add 2 tbsp vegetable oil. Add the mushrooms and cook for 4-5 minutes to colour well and cook.
4. Carefully remove the mushrooms from the pan and keep warm.
5. Add the steak and season well with salt and pepper, cook to the degree your Dad likes.
6. Remove the chips when cooked and sprinkle over the cheese, return to the oven and cook until the cheese has melted.
7. Serve the steak, cheesy chips and mushrooms on a large plate with brown sauce separately.
Tips
1. Cooking the mushrooms and the steak in the same pan adds flavour to the dish and saves on the washing up.
2. Oven baked or fried chips both work well here.
3. Once the steak is cooked, leave to rest before eating, this makes the steak softer to eat.
4. Any cheese will do here, try a blue cheese for a different flavour.
5. This also works well with chicken breast or pork chops.
